CDR 48-Hour Exam Policy

The CDR exam sign-up policy & process:

  • Students must sign up to take an exam at CDR more than 48 hours in advance of the exam. Semester exam dates are included in the course syllabi students receive at the beginning of the semester.
  • Students will follow the standard procedures for signing up for exams as detailed in the “Signing Up for Exam” instructional guide located in the Disability Resource Portal, Resource Library.
  • The disability student portal system will not allow students to sign up for any time that falls within a 48-hour period.
    • Exceptions will only be considered for approval when all of the following criteria are met.
      • The student provides a written communication from their healthcare provider indicating they experienced a medical incident that prevented them from signing up, and
      • They are signing up to take the exam for the same day and time their class is taking the exam (or students otherwise have written faculty approval to take the exam at a different time), and
      • There is available space, and
      • CDR already has a copy of the exam.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  1. Inform Instructors of your Accommodations
  • Students have the option of providing their Accommodation Letter to professors in person or can opt for the system to send a digital copy.  Either way, students are responsible for having a conversation with their instructors to discuss their accommodations.
  1. Signup for all your exams
  • Students should always take exams at the same time as the class! If there is a scheduling conflict with another class or exam, students are responsible for  contacting the instructor to work out a new day or time. Depending on  instructor preference and student schedule, students will either take it earlier, to ensure time-extension accommodations or start later – if possible at a time that overlaps with when the rest of the class is taking it. Once the student and professor have established the adjusted time, students will ask that the instructor send an email to CDRexams@syr.edu to inform us that the new date/time has been approved.

  • Emergency medical events that require scheduling the exam at an alternate time will be considered on a case-by-case basis and subject to space availability and faculty approval.
  • CDR cannot guarantee we will be able to process these late requests.  In these cases, exams will need to be taken in the regularly assigned classroom.
  • Students who walk-in without signing up or have not requested and been approved for an exception, will be advised to return to their regularly assigned classroom.
  1. Check-in
  • Students should check in for exams at least 10 minutes prior to the start time at 111 Waverly Ave. Suite, Floor 0 – Testing Center. When students arrive later than 15 minutes of the exam/class start time but still within the class meeting time, CDR staff will seat the student, but the end time will remain the same.
  • All non-essential items (coats, backpacks, cell phones, smart watches, etc.) are required to be kept in a locker during exams.  Only items approved by  accommodation and/or professor, are permitted in the testing room. Students  are responsible for bringing materials required for each exam (e.g. calculator, ruler, pencil, protractor, etc.).
  1. Taking Your Exam
    • All university exam policies are followed.
    • CDR proctors exams via multiple cameras located in each room and hallway.
    • Students must work quietly; a distraction-reduced setting is essential for all!
    • There is absolutely NO TALKING in the exam rooms.
    • Drinks are permitted but must be in a clear container or be examined by exam staff.
    • Students should refrain from wearing scented products (cologne, perfume, lotions, body spray, aftershave, etc.) to respect those who may have sensitivities.
    • When students have completed an exam, they will give it and any additional materials to the testing staff.  If a staff member comes into an exam room to collect an exam, students will hand it to them promptly and courteously.
