FAQ for Faculty/Staff Supporting Students Online

This page offers information on how to support students with accommodations in the new online platform. The below are frequently asked questions.

How can faculty make sure students continue to receive accommodations?

  • Access Coordinator are available to consult with individual faculty if they have questions regarding their students’ accommodations
  • Many accommodations can seamlessly transfer to the online environment.  For example:
    • A student who audio records the lecture can continue to do so
    • Peer notes will continue to be uploaded for synchronous lectures

How will accommodations for exams be administered?

Faculty will be responsible for implementing the testing accommodations for their students’ exams.  The most common accommodations include providing extra time and uploading an accessible version for use with screen readers.  For a list of students with testing/classroom accommodations, navigate to your Faculty Portal and access the ‘Accommodations Letters’ tab located along the left-hand side. Click on the student’s ‘letter of accommodation’ for their specific accommodations.

Faculty can also consider open book exams instead of Blackboard exams and email their exam directly to all students for expediency.
